Detailed Programme

mérida Town Centre
Day 1: Arrival in Venezuela and Transfer to The Andes

Once your international flight arrives in Caracas, claim your luggage at the carousel. After going through customs, follow the transit flight sign until you get to the national airport, and check in at the counter; it will take you about 10 minutes to go from the international flights area to the national one. Our driver is going to pick you up at the airport in El vígia city and take you directly to your posada (a sort of inn) in mérida (1h30- 2h).

Andes de Venezuela
Day 2: Discover the most beautiful small villages in the Andes

On this trip, you’re going to visit Los Nevados, a picturesque andean village hidden among breathtaking high mountains. Walking around this unchanged 16th century village feels like you’re back in the Spanish colonial era. Our trip starts at 08:00AM in a 4X4 Toyota vehicle. Your guide is going to take you to the most beautiful and isolated Andean villages in the Andes. After 3 hours on a rough, unpaved road (60km) and several stops to watch the magnificent scenery, you'll finally reach Los Nevados village. Once there, your guide will be willing to take you for a walk or for ride on a mule around the village.

Accommodation: Posada Jerez, a simple, rustic and cosy inn. Thick blankets, hot water and electricity.
Transport: Toyota Land Cruiser model 70.

Day 3: Visit the Most Beautiful Villages in the Andes at 2,500 m. above Sea Level

We will start our morning in Los Nevados, a charming village that has remained almost unchanged since 1591. Along with your guide, you’ll be able to enjoy watching the magnificent Andean scenery and visit its surroundings on foot or by mule. The hospitality of its people and the incredible calm of this magical place are the two things you will love the most. Later, you’ll have lunch at 12:00PM; and finally, you have to take the local Transport and go all the way back to Mérida city (60km, 3h).

Paragliding Andes Venezuela
Day 4 : Canoping and paragliding

We’ll dedicate this morning to a whole new activity called: CANOPING. In the afternoon: You are now on the verge of realizing a childhood dream! You will fly over the ANDES on PARAGLIDING accompanied by an experienced driver. Amazing! Anticipate between 20 and 40min of flight and 1 hour drive to go and to return to the launch site. Your guide will pick you up at your posada at the beginning of the afternoon. Return expected at 18:30.

Day 5 : Rafting

Departure from mérida to the city of Barinas at 07h00. We will cross the Venezuelan Andes past a crossing at 3500m (3:30h 134km) and way down to the Acequias river (1:30 100km). Lunch at the camp. First rafting accompanied by professional guides on class II / III course (1:30) to initiate the boat handling. Overnight at camps with beds along the river.

Day 6: Rafting and transfert to the Llanos plains

After a copious breakfast, we begin our second rafting descent on a long journey of three hours on the IV (V) class level Sinigue river. Unforgettable journey in the middle of very dense vegetation and a much cashed torrent. Back to our camp to have lunchThen we'll go into the vast plain of the Llanos and begin to observe numerous species of birds and alligators along the path that leads us to the camp (350km 03h30). Arrival at the end of the afternoon at a local family who will welcome us.

Red Ibis, Los Llanos Venezuela
Day 7 : Watch Caimans and Other Spectacular Wild Animals

In this region, there is a large number of majestic wide slow rivers that are home to countless species of animals such as: red ibises, white and black storks (Jabiru), kingfishers, herons, eagles, turtles, dolphins and tapirs. So, after having breakfast, we will go for a safari boat ride on one of the most well preserved rivers of Los Llanos; you will be able to enjoy bird-watching, seeing dolphins and giant river otters, and photographing wildlife in general. After this pleasant activity, you will return to your camp for an outdoor meal. You will go on safari in a 4X4 vehicle in the afternoon. You can sit on the roof of the vehicle and enjoy a 360° panoramic view. This day ends with the capture of alligators and the observation of wild anteaters.

Day 8: Anacondas Search, Horse Riding and Piranhas Fishing

Horseback riding, searching for anacondas and fishing piranhas are three experiences you simply cannot miss this day. After breakfast, you'll be able to ride a horse and go even deeper into the savannah. Horseback riding is the best way to get closer enough to watch and photograph wild animals. It’s also possible to go walking in the Savannah if you wish. After finishing these activities, you will go back to your camp for an outdoor meal. The afternoon will be devoted to looking for anacondas and fishing piranhas you could eat for dinner!

Día 9: Tranfer from Los Llanos to the beaches of Choroni

We leave for Barinas at 8:00 a.m. (350km; 3h 30min). Once there, you’ll have lunch and then get a taxi to take you to the town of Maracay (390 km; 3/4h). It’s a scenic 2-hour drive over steep mountain roads from Maracay to Choroni (70km).

Beaches in Choroní, Venezuela
Days 10 to 14 : Have fun on the Caribbean coast beaches, and visit the Cacao farms

These two days, you will visit the Choroní beach, considered one of the best beaches in Venezuela. There, you’ll find the fun and relaxation you need. Your posada will be located in the heart of the small colonial-style village of Puerto Colombia (Choroní). You could arrange a fishing boat for you to visit Cepe or Chuao (Not included, it might cost up to 30 euro/day).

Day 15 : Return to the Airport, and Take your International Flight

You’ll be driven back to Caracas Airport (4-5h; 220km). Once you get there, you’ll be able to board your international flight. We recommend you should be at the check-in counter 5 hours before your flight.

Travel organization:
Our programmes are individually organised in terms of dates and content. However, our tours are not fully private, so you could meet other travellers at different stages of your trip.
What to Bring?
Hat; sunscreen; water bottle; hike pants; insect repellent; headlamp; raincoat; passport copy; sleeping bag liner; you don’t need big, heavy or cumbersome shoes, but good trainers (orienteering shoes); plastic bags to keep water away from electronic devices; first-aid-kit; polar fleece jacket; bath towel.
Further Advice:
Don't forget your travel insurance! You can benefit from the travel cancellation insurance offered by your credit-card company when paying for your tourist package at our point of sale. You must get neither a visa nor vaccination to come to Venezuela. However, Franbrasil Tour’s C.A. recommends you should get the yellow fever vaccine and the preventive treatment of malaria. You also need to have a valid passport for at least six months before arriving in Venezuela, and you have to carry it with you when travelling within the country.
